October 1, 2014

Newly appointed to the Advisory Board of Dakotas America is Suzanne Anarde, program vice president for Rural Local Initiatives Support Corporation a national intermediary CDFI working in 39 states and over 1200 rural counties based in Fowler, Colorado. Dakotas America is a rural community development organization with a national service territory formed in 2005 to serve distressed areas of the US with no access to New Markets Tax Credits. Dakotas America has utilized NMTCs in the most remote and distressed Native American reservations, the Appalachians, mountainous rural areas of the Northwest, the distressed Deep South and the most isolated areas of the High Plains.

Anarde, a community development professional with over 23 years of experience helping rural communities and non-profits build communities through collaborative efforts, began her career as the founding Executive Director of Tri-County Housing & CDC in southeastern Colorado, serving a population of just over 30,000 and an area encompassing 1400 square miles. Tri-County started as a housing rehab agency and expanded programs to include Self Help housing, down payment and housing counseling assistance, infrastructure development, multi-family rehab management and development, disaster recovery, downtown renovations, community facility development, including assisted livings, theaters and senior centers.

Anarde joined Rural LISC as a consultant in 2005, and became an employee in 2010. As a consultant, she was active with Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in Mississippi, rebuilding medical clinics, also serving as post-storm special needs shelters. As Senior Program Director for Rural LISC, she managed loan and grant portfolios and relationships with Rural LISC partners in California, Oregon and Utah. She served on the Colorado State Housing Board for 7 years and is currently President of her local School Board, which she has served since 2008. She has been a Board member of the National Rural Housing Coalition since 2001.

“Suzanne understands the power of community development,” said Lin Van Hofwegen, Managing Director of Dakotas America. “She brings a wealth of experience to our Advisory Board, along with programmatic knowledge that can only benefit our efforts moving forward.”
