South Dakota Wheat Growers, a cooperative owned by several thousand agricultural producers in North and South Dakota, has invested $11.4 million in a wheat processing and grain shipping upgrade at the McLaughlin location of the South Dakota Wheat Growers cooperative, located on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Improvements made at South Dakota Wheat Growers' McLaughlin elevator have allowed it to meet changing product specifications and capture profitability for the producers in the area. The facility improvements expanded and enhanced the process of segregating, blending and preserving identity of grain prior to shipment. These changes also provided producer-owners in the area with faster grain dumping. With the ability to load 110-car shuttle trains, member-owners in both Dakotas received very competitive prices for their grain because of Wheat Growers ability to obtain better shipping rates.
